Looking for ways to create a multi-drive Windows Setup

    Hello,

we are looking for ideas on how to create a Windows Setup Multi drive.

Say Windows 7 Setup pralel to Windows 8 setup and best yet LSP.

    Approaches are:

Create USB Stick different partitions ..... ==> Problem Windows always recognizes only the first APrtition and the Windows setup requires a USB flash drive with a partitioned drive.

Boot.wim adjust so that completely runs the Windows Setup from a subdirectory (if it goes beyond the boot.wim)
Windows 7 and Windows 8 have different boot manager

Let's see what you thinks so.

( i used Google translator my english is not the best sorry i hope you will understand it )

Looking for ways to create a multi-WIM Windows Setup

    Hi FeelGood,

it is a good way to post this thread also in EN.

My wishes are similarly like you're. I prefer MultiWim "srt" for Multi7PE and Win8PE.
    But this is another dream.

    Now to your theme:

I had (one jear ago) with madmax create a stick with 2 partitions. This was a good Start.
We had create a multiboot stick with a good bootmenu up to (madmax correct me) 35 Bootprograms.

There are examples to find in a google how to install a CD/Rom driver to a usb stick.
The result is a Stick you can boot with one partition Win7PE and the second partition with WinXPE-PE.

Now the solution ... (Not in Lsp) is to use SARDU.
It support all your projects.ISO up to 4GB size. (but i think this is the base problem)
I know NO System all over the world that support AIO with 5, 7 or more GB on a MultiBoot System.
The problem is FAT32 (up to 4 GB space)

A (for me) very good example is http://bootsticks.de.to/
because i don't know if all software is legal.
    Viele Grüße, -_Bazii_-

For several months I want to make a multiwim project, so win8pe x86 and win8pe x64 on one usb stick. Or win7pese and win8pe on one stick. Something like that. Just to be able to boot different pe versions and architechtures. It can be done, but from within lsp it is not going to be easy.

I guess a stick with multiple partitions, each containing a winpe version with setup and a modified boot.wim would be required. Both for setup and for multiple wims ?
I tried several times to create multiple partitions on one stick, with mbldr (http://mbldr.sourceforge.net/) as a boot manager. But the active/hiding of partitions was not working like on a hd. This stuff works for years on my system. But not usb.

This is also something very interesting: Rufus (http://rufus.akeo.ie/). Could replace pe2usb. But no commandline yet, in the nearby future.

On the one partition AIO Win 7/8 as ISO and Win7PE either x64 or x64 Win8PE

X64 can be run only on the one partition. (Because the filter driver)

The menu.lst needs to be adjusted then.

I think it would go like this.

The main disadvantage is that many programs are doubly or triply.

There will be much to test.

How Bazii already wrote in the English thread we worked about 1 year ago to talk about it.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had already tested yesterday ...
However, on a Win7 32bit system, as does also the Hitachi Microdrive driver (which is unfortunately only for 32bit).
On the web you can find a x64 driver does not work properly.
If the one installed on a x64 bit system will not boot Windows after a reboot. One must then be off into safe mode and there the only option digitized driver.
    Then go the hell back.
    But ..................
If you are partitioning a drive setup requires Windows during the installation, at the start, a driver.
Since you can have the x64 driver on the stick and read, but always get the message "There is no new driver ..." or something like that.

If someone could write an x64 driver, where you can then enter his USB stick, and this is detected then both under x86 and x64 system and still works in the setup of Windows, the problem would probably be solved.

    Quelle: http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/map.htm#hd32

    Booting from .ISO Images

It is possible to map and boot from some CD/DVD images using Grub4dos, however it should be noted that this feature is experimental. Remember -"The "map" process is implemented using INT 13 - any disk emulation will remain accessible from an OS that uses compatible mode disk access, e.g. DOS and Windows 9x. The emulation can't however, be accessed from an OS which uses protected mode drivers (Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, Linux, FreeBSD) once the protected mode kernel file(s) take control."
This means that there is no way (at present) to install Windows using Grub4dos ISO emulation. Also, it is not possible to boot a Windows PE (Preinstallation Environment) boot disc image, unless the image is RAM disk based. RAM disk based discs include Windows PE 2/2.1 and builds that utilise ramdisk.sys and setupldr.bin files from windows 2003 server SP1 source (see here andhere).

Hmmmm the path to the BDC must somehow be adapted in bootmgr if you want to run the setup from a subdirectory.
It is sufficient to adapt not only the BCD file, I've tried.
Then the bootmgr reports that he can not find the file "boot \ BDC".

Okay just got a mental leap

one would have time to test if that works.

bootmgr and the Boot Verezichnis in the root of the stick.
The file to edit the BCD to the various subdirectories as

    Win7x86
    Win7x64
    Win8x86
    Win8x64
    LSP

    or

    Win7AIO
    Win8AIO
    LSP

and there refers to the respective source folder.

Still just stumbled across something where you could possibly think about it.

We build a VM with two vhd's.

We install a Windows system on the first and on the second vhd we unpack the ISO of Win7 or Win8.
This second vhd we then bind with a grub4dos if that works.
I meant to have read somewhere.

    I have found:

    Code:
It is NOT about VHD booting, it is about booting WINDOWS 7 on VHD.
    Normally you have:
    C:\BOOTMGR
    C:\boot\BCD
    C:\Myl33t7.vhd

The booting sequence is as follows:
    BIOS->MBR->Active partition bootsector->BOOTMGR->BCD choice mapping C:\Myl33t7.vhd

You can insert grub4dos in any point BEFORE BOOTMGR.

IF you want to have the BOOTMGR and \boot\BCD INSIDE the .vhd, as long as the .vhd is static, you just map the .vhd in grub4dos and chainload the BOOTMGR in it:
    find --set-root /Myl33t7.vhd

    map /Myl33t7.vhd (hd31)

    root (hd31)

    chainload /BOOTMGR

    boot
The grub4dos mapping is only used in the initial part of the setup to aloow the loading of BOOTMGR and BCD.

The demand to have the above specifically tested for booting Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit, has been ignored in the making of this post.
If you are willing to donate suitable hardware and a valid license for it I may actually test it.

    Let's see in a FAQ/FGA form:
    Q1. Can grub4dos map/access a .vhd image?
A1. Yes, but ONLY if it is a "static" .vhd, as grub4dos DOES NOT suport the .vhd format, for a mere coincidence the static .vhd format is a RAW image with a single sector appended (which is ignored by grub4dos)
    Q2. So can grub4dos map/access a "dynamic" .vhd image?
    A2. NO, see above.
    Q3. So can grub4dos map/access a "differencing" .vhd image?
    A3. NO, see above.
Q4. So can grub4dos map/access any kind of .vhd one but the "static" one?
    A4. NO, see above.
Q5 So, can grub4dos map .vhd images?
    A5. Loop to Q1.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

that here seems to include interesting information

    http://reboot.pro/topic/8043-booting...sb-sub-folder/

    example:

\ boot \ BCD needs to be in \ boot \ BCD, as it is hardcoded in BOOTMGR.

Or you need to hexedit and patch BOOTMGR.

The path is fixed and it is independent from the filesystem used.

    Hi Bazii,

you know that sardu supports NTFS?
yes i know this. My Nicname in SARDU forum is just another as here.
NTFS: It is not possible to support with NTFS "WinXYZ PE Systems" AND "Installer". This is only possible with fat32 format and a "barrosu"

Hier is a thread for you for better understanding in DE: http://www.sarducd.it/forum/german-f...-pe-t1196.html

The Multible funktion is only possilbe with "syslinux" and "Barrosu".
    No other chance i know.

    Hi Bazii

can you remember that i have done a working Stick with LSP Win7PE and a Windows 7 AIO setup ?
The trick is that you must rename the boot.wim from LSP and change the BDC file.

It does not matter wheter i used SARDU or LSP

LSP has only a Boot.wim in the folder sources.

All other folder and files are the same as in Windows 7 (only by Win7PE ).

WIn7PE and WIndows 7 Setup should have the same (32 bit or 64 bit ).

For this to do in a perfect way it is not possible without builder changes . One must handle the various Program Files directories. The wim files is just the easy part. And RunFromRam is not an option.
    So currently not possible imo.

Thanks for information. I feared this already. Maybe we get more time for such a project in the winter half of the year 13-14 together with kare.
